This was my first total eclipse to see in person
It is hard to believe that in my lifetime, I have only seen one total eclipse of the sun. Years passed, I was working or just out of the path of totality. Lunar eclipses, where the earth passes between the moon and sun, I’ve seen. Not solar eclipses.
Though it was short-lived, approximately a minute, it allowed enough time to fully appreciate the awesomeness of the moment.
We had the approved viewing classes, more like really dark tinted plastic in a paper frame. But they were critical to enjoying the moment. Just a sliver of sun peaking around the edge of the moon was too intense. It was only during the moment of totality, that we removed our glasses. It had become too dim to see the eclipse through them at that point.
After a round of cheers from the neighborhood, the process occurred in reverse. The sun slowly made its way from behind the moon, and the light’s intensity grew rapidly. But this won’t be the last time. Spain or its territory, is scheduled to receive two more passes in 2027 and 2028.
So mark your calendars for 2 August 2027 and a follow-up on 26 January 2028. After that, the next one is not due until 2053.
